2026 Government Funding Update

On February 3, the House passed the FY2026 funding package which includes the Small Business Administration (SBA) and its programs. This package includes five funding bills, along with a short-term extension of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been signed into law by the President.

What does this mean for the SBA 504 Program?

  • The SBA is fully funded for the rest of FY2026.
  • Total funding available for the SBA 504 Loan Program for the remainder of the fiscal year (as set by legislation) is $16.5 billion.
  • Small businesses can continue to apply for and receive SBA 504 loans without any interruption through the end of the fiscal year, September 30.

What’s next?

Congress and the White House will continue discussions around DHS funding. Any decisions related to DHS will NOT affect SBA programs or SBA lending.

Update on Potential Government Shutdown

A government shutdown now seems probable. As a reminder, the federal government is currently operating under a continuing resolution (CR) that expires on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Disagreements over funding, combined with weather-related delays and the House of Representatives being out of session, have significantly limited the time available for Congress to reach a funding agreement before the deadline.

Congress has already passed several funding bills, however, approximately 75% of the federal government remains unfunded beyond January 30, including the Small Business Administration (SBA) and its programs.

In the event of a government shutdown, the NWBDA office will remain open. Our team will continue processing all permissible items and preparing those that must await the government’s reopening. Importantly, January and February 504 projects will be funded as scheduled, regardless of a government shutdown.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership. If you have any questions regarding your loan or SBA programs, our team is ready to assist.

The outlook remains uncertain, and we are planning for all potential outcomes, including the possibility of a government shutdown. As a reminder, the January and February 504 projects will fund as scheduled,  regardless of a government shutdown.
